Chemical Brothers' grand finale

The Ultra Tent featured bona fide "superstar DJs" and long-time New York favorites, Erick Morillo and Danny Tenaglia. Fresh off the plane from Ibiza – where he held a summer residency at the beautiful Balearic club, Pacha -- Morillo wowed the ecstatic crowd in his steamy tent, following a fresh and titillating set by Tenaglia. Morillo has a new celebrity sycophant these days (and it's not Diddy), in the form of perennial party-girl, Tara Reid. Reid was also at Morillo's set the week before at Pacha in Ibiza, and New Yorkers should not be surprised to see her -- along with other global DJs, music industry elite, models, Hollywood-movers and Wall Street-shakers -- at the new Pacha when it opens (in the former Sound Factory space) this winter.

The New York Tent showcased Crobar's NY's #1 resident and arguably New York's "hottest" club jock of the moment (outdone perhaps only by Tenaglia or Morillo) -- the man dubbed by DJ TIMES magazine as "The King of Big Room Boom" -- DJ Boris. With an aggressively loyal following comprised of die-hard clubbers whose passion and endurance are surpassed only by his own, Boris made the best of the mere two hours allotted by Ultra.NY. Famous for regularly playing marathon DJ sets lasting 12 to 15-hours, many of those in the New York Tent wished Boris' set could last all night. Earlier in the tent, former Crobar resident and senior director of A&R for Ultra Records, David Waxman, and frequent Perfecto touring DJ and self-proclaimed "Troublemaker," Liquid Todd, warmed-up the crowds.

Pioneer Pro DJ was an official sponsor of Ultra.NY, and by the morning of the festival all 5,000 tickets had been sold. There were no major incidents, although water and non-alcoholic liquids should have been more readily available for purchase. All in all, this afternoon-into-evening festival was enjoyable, and New Yorkers should be looking forward to more outdoor festivals next summer.
