Feist October 17 at The Danforth Music Hall It was the warmest welcome home that she could have asked for. At Feist’s first gig in Toronto since she moved back from Paris where she had been living for the last three years, the infatuated crowd applauded her before the songs started, laughed enthusiastically at all of her jokes, and even gave her a standing ovation at the end. The night’s seduction began with the indie chanteuse walking on the dark stage with a sparkler in hand as she sang a cappella. Her strong smoky voice, which had a layer effect added to it, echoed hauntingly through the room. The 1,200 fans at the Danforth Music Hall, which included everyone from indie rockers to easy listening FM mums, were entranced. Her band joined her after a few minutes and they launched into songs off her second album, “Let It Die,” which had recently certified Gold in Canada. Dressed all in white, with a party mask hanging from her neck, the Nova Scotia native took the stage solo for most of the night. She encouragingly transformed the crowd into her backup singers during “Gatekeeper” and a new song, “Fighting Away the Tears.” She jokingly sang “You don’t even know me,” in reply to someone who screamed out “I love you!” Despite being brushed off, the audience was already too won over to care. |
