Steve Lawler - Lights out 3Steve Lawler Lights out 3
(Global Underground/Fusion III)
Dropping nine spots to 30 on DJ Magazine’s Top 100, Steve Lawler is still king of Space in Ibiza, opening a new Thursday night at the legendary Balearic club last summer with close friend Sasha. He’s still got the skills to drive dance floors into a frenzy, as his style of seductive, and funky progressive house has gotten a little less dark, but no less powerful. The music is constantly changing and Lawler’s reliable for dropping new tunes and making them anthems, as this double-disc mix is my favourite since his Nu Breed mix from 2000. Wickedly good tracks by mostly artists you wouldn’t know the names of! —TKO

Dave Seaman - This Is Audio TherapyDave Seaman This Is Audio Therapy
(Audio Therapy/Fusion III)
Dave’s imprint label and music group, Audio Therapy, a sort of Global Underground meets Renaissance UK kind of project that he began in ’99, marks its second mixed compilation independent of Renaissance Recordings. One of the earliest pioneers of progressive house, Dave Seaman ranks an ironic and sassy 69 in DJ Magazine’s top 100 list. This mix is more of what you come to expect from Mr. Seaman—fat chunky house beats with soaring dark and melancholic soundscapes. Comes with an unmixed second disc. —TKO

Kingdom of the NetherlandsFerry Corsten
Passport: Kingdom of the Netherlands
(Thrive/Fusion III)
Rotterdam superstar DJ Ferry Corsten, responsible for his System F trance hit “Into the Blue” is back with yet another trance mix in his new Passport series.  Sitting impressively at number five on DJ Magazine’s Top 100, there’s sadly nothing groundbreaking here, sounding like all the other trance DJs at the top of the list…meaning it’ll do for trance punters out there. Tracks by Bill Hamel, BT, System F, Thrillseekers and Dogzilla. —TKO
