ALBUM OF THE MONTH
Album Cover for Eagles of Death Metal, Death By Sexy.
Eagles of Death Metal–Death By Sexy…(Fabulous Weapons Music) Call them blues rock, call them garage rock, whatever you want to label it, Eagles of Death Metal are one of the most entertaining bands around right now. This is the sophomoric album from founder Jesse “The Devil” Hughes and Queens of the Stone Age founder Josh Homme. Their name came from Hommes’ inspiring Hughes to write some songs that would be the Eagles crossed with death metal. The result is something a little like Beck in his raunchiest moments (like “Chain Reaction” from Guero) meetsThe White Stripes, with some classic Rolling Stones thrown in. Vocally, the similarity to Beck’s Midnight Vultures is amusing, as can be compared on songs like “Cherry Cola”; “I can razzamatazz ya, honey, if you want me to/I can be your daddy, be your Rock ’N’ Rolla/You can be my Sugar, be my Cherry Cola.” EoDM hits all the right spots musically, never limping into the predictable, with catchy guitar riffs and poignant lyrical poetry. —AZ
