Continuing right where they left off with their self-titled debut, The Futureheads’ sophomoric release, News and Tributes is filled with more high-energy proper British punk blazing complete with poignant lyrical sass and catchy riffs. As uplifting their sound can be, News and Tributes rocks with the best of the dark and angst ridden albums in the indie-punk/rock world, without falling into sappy, sentimental drivel like the Kaiser Chiefs, The Alarm or the more recent disappointment from The Secret Machines. The Futureheads have matured a great deal musically, which could have a little something to do with Ben Hillier’s presence as producer, who has produced for Blur. Now if they can just get those stubborn Americans to give these boys the props and respect they deserve. —TS
