No question, if you’re going to come up with such a commanding title as this, you’d better have the right people on the job, and Masters at Work fits the title of The Kings of House. House legends Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez and “Little” Louie Vega compile some inspiring house classics that’ll make you feel as though you’re at the Paradise Garage. Gonzalez’s mix kicks off appropriately with Reese & Santonio’s “The Sound,” which later paved way to Ceramix’s “I Can’t Stop.” “Can You Feel It” by Mr. Fingers launched about a thousand other songs from its patented beat and bassline, and no classic house compilation is complete without Rhythm is Rhythm’s “Strings Of Life.” Louie Vega, responsible for a classic track of his own in “French Kiss’,” serves up a few juicy masterpieces like “Bring Down the Walls” and “I’ll Be Your Friend” by Robert Owens, “Watcha Gonna Do” by Blaze, and “Let Me Show You Love” by Romanthony. No compilation like this would be complete without Frankie Knuckles…in this case “Your Love” and “Baby Wants To Ride” featuring Jamie Principle. —CQ
