HIP HOP: Gnarles Barkley, St. Elsewhere |
|
downtown music/atlantic If you haven’t jumped on the Gnarls Barkley bandwagon as of yet, well, you sure are “out-of-the-loop” as the kids say these days. Never have we seen an artist’s debut LP come out with such presence and popularity than that of producer Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and vocalist/MC Thomas Callaway (Cee-Lo), a.k.a. Gnarls Barkley and their album St. Elsewhere. What’s it sound like, you ask? Imagine Outkast doing it up with The Avalanches and Blackalicious and you’re sort of there. Their official live debut happened at this year’s past Coachella festival, and they rocked it of course, but they did throw on a show two days prior as a part of the Secret Show series by Myspace.com. Since then they’ve appeared on Conan O’Brien, BBC’s Later with Jools Holland and the Jay Leno Show. Their single “Crazy” topped the UK singles charts for nine weeks. - Rusty |
