If you had any doubts that Morrissey can still rock the joint like he did back in the days of the Smiths, the opening track “I Will See You In Far Off Places” from Ringleader of the Tormentors, vintage Smiths all the way, should set you straight. Yes, there’s plenty of sadness and melancholy from the Manchester maestro, but his songwriting is as beautiful as it’s ever been, with hidden layers of sardonic humour. It’s good to see and hear that age becomes Morrissey, as he gracefully continues to grow as a songwriter. —CQ
