A worthy and close runner-up to album of the month, the New York–based alternative rock outfit follows through another winner, after the huge success of their debut Fever To Tell. Lead singer Karen O, drummer Brian Chase and guitarist Nick Zinner spawned the name Yeah Yeah Yeahs by the way New Yorkers talk. Musically they’re inspired from various retro styles, heavy guitars and melancholic melodies, sounding similar to Toronto’s Metric mixed with some The White Stripes, Siouxsie & the Banshees and Sonic Youth. —SA
