As the debut album from the London punk-rocker, Jake Searson’s Truth and Lies is an interesting ride, mostly possessing heavy, melodic guitar riffs and pounding drums in the order of some British version of Offspring, with occasional moments of Metallica, and oddly enough a mix of Iggy Pop & The Stooges and the New York Dolls tossed in for kicks. Although it’s a strange combination of sounds, the songwriting is pretty good for his premiere, and it will be interesting to see where he goes from here on his sophomoric attempt…I say stick more to the Stooges sound. —SA
