SOOKE HARBOUR HOUSE 1528 Whiffen Spit Road (250) 642-3421 Mon-Sun 5:00pm-9:00pm Dinner for two: $120.00
No Victoria-area restaurant is more renowned than the award-winning Sooke Harbour House. It has played host to such Hollywood celebrities as Sharon Stone, Richard Gere, and Kevin Costner. Although a 45-minute drive from downtown to the Western Communities, it’s well worth the trip, and the organic, locally sourced delicacies prepared by chef Sinclair Philip are a major draw. If you order, say, Chinook salmon with gooseberry sauce, the fish may have come from the ocean whose view you're admiring, while the berries are grown in the kitchen garden. Oysters, scallops, duck, and veal also emerge as mainstays of this inventive potpourri, and vegetarian dishes sparkle too. Book a stay at the eponymous inn if you really want to soak up the seaside atmosphere. |
