“A collection should evoke an attitude of freethinking spirituality, while conveying personality and star quality.” Says Johan Lindeberg, creator of the Lindeberg clothing line

This year's Autumn/Winter collection is a mixture of sharp silhouettes and mature masculinity.

Eight years ago, Swedish born Johan Lindeberg, former CEO of Diesel USA, began developing his very own creation. This creation was built on producing an “international prestige brand focusing on global identity and modern lifestyles.” Johan had no intention of creating another classic brand with a slight angle, he intended to produce a brand that was revolutionary in every way possible. Johan works from an “inside out” philosophy that relies more on intuition than research, all of which is crucial to creating the unique J.Lindeberg brand. J.Lindeberg is a brand that purports to appeal to “a modern and aware consumer looking for a more individual style, whether he/she is 18 or 60”. It’s about being open and intrigued about new ideas and modern developments within all areas of the fashion world.

J.Lindeberg’s first collection was launched in Fall 1997 and conveyed both the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and the nomadic principles that Johan follows. An obvious principle/interest included in the new collection was sportswear, with a focus on golf garb.  From the beginning, Johan wanted to create a brand that had a full presence in contemporary fashion as well as the sports world. Through his determination to create a strong impression with his contemporaries and his need for a challenge, Johan stuck with his intuition. Never one to feel comfortable in restrictive/pretentious country clubs, his objective was to support and enhance individuality in a country club atmosphere. After all, as he put it, "If you can inspire the game of golf, you can inspire the world." His philosophy of balance between function & creativity has paid off. Johan Lindeberg managed to create a golf wear range that was modern and fashionable, yet functional on and off the course. Since then, the brand has progressively expanded with flagship stores in Stockholm, New York, Tokyo and is now recognized internationally.

This year has seen the brand expand once more, with the appointment of Marcella Lindeberg as the creative director of J.Lindeberg Women. Since being the original muse for women's wear, it was decided that it was time for Marcella to “take full charge and add the integrity and authority” required.. Marcella's signature Autumn/Winter 2006 collection was launched at this year's New York Fashion Week with a more confident and modern rock ‘n’ roll attitude. Inspired by a “dynamic playfulness between the feminine and masculine world, and sexuality,” Marcella has began her challenge with the gap that exists in women’s wear of either being too “conservative” or “girly” when creating a modern, smart, tailored collection. “I welcome the time when dressing up won’t mean accessorizing....”

This year's Autumn/Winter collection is a mixture of sharp silhouettes and mature masculinity. There is a noticeable classic and rock 'n' roll influence, which can be seen in the key items of this year’s collection. The “essential” wardrobe items present in this year's collection are: single- and double-breasted coats, classic slim suits, narrow belts with the skinny fit pants, tailored trousers, leather bombers, black denims and the recurring round-neck-cut white T-shirt reinforcing the simplicity of the essential classics. Lindeberg's chosen colour palette for this season consists of “murky colors,” including grey, green, black, beige, “dirty mustard yellow and oily teal.” This follows through into the line’s shoewear, in which Johan has included a few of his favourite styles from: stacked rock ‘n’ roll boots to Chelsea ankle boots to more traditional styles in men’s shoes. Johan’s interests have always been in sport and music, to the extent that he describes the business metaphorically in musical terms. “It's like being in a rock 'n' roll band: even though Magnus and I write the tunes, we still need a guitar player or a drummer, and once you find the right rhythm it’s all pretty simple!" It seems that the J.Lindeberg lifestyle brand is certainly playing along the “right rhythm” with the likes of Pharell Williams, Tiger Woods, Jesper Parnevik, Charles Howell III, Australian sensation Aaron Baddeley and The Killers as its clients and supporters.
